Jon is an Australian composer and musician. He trained in music at the NSW State Conservatorium (now Sydney University) and studied English Lit & Ancient History, completing an Honours degree in New Testament History from Sydney’s Macquarie University. He has been a Head of Department and teacher of English & History, Legal Studies, Geography and Commerce in independent schools. Jon plays piano, trumpet, saxophone, flute, pipe organ and is a Bel Canto trained Tenor, having also sung professional opera. He has directed music in services at a number of Sydney churches and has been the musical director for secular stage shows.
Jon is passionate about writing Christian music that inspires praise: music which has soaring melodies and uplifting lyrics that will have people singing about Jesus long after a service is finished or they have listened to the song. Jon regularly uses Scripture in his music, knowing that followers of God will be helped to memorise Bible verses through beautiful melodies which will sustain their daily lives.
As an Ancient Historian, Jon writes regularly about faith, biblical texts and the History of the Bible and these and other published articles can be found on his blog and Facebook. Currently, Jon is working on a new biography of Francis Havergal, the prominent female 19th Century evangelist, performer, author and lyricist whose words he has set to music.
Jon is available to provide online coaching for worship leaders – for more information email info@jonseccombemusic.com.
